Open Days

The first Saturday of each month (1pm - 4pm) is Open Day at EarthCare. Everyone is welcome to visit the centre and take part in free talks and site tours.

PRESENTATION
BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE HOUSE AT BLAXLANDS RIDGE
Ian Moxon tells of his successfully completed, entirely self sufficient, sustainable house in the Hawkesbury. It has been open on Sustainable House Day several times and serves as an example that it can actually be done, despite the challenges. No doubt Ian will have several tales of the trials and triumphs of his project.

Time: 1.15 for 1.30 pm, about an hour and plenty of time for questions afterwards.
Where: Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre, Cnr Science Rd & Campus Drive, University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury Campus, Richmond, NSW. 
Entry $5 towards afternoon tea and expenses.

Nick Hollo, architect and author of Warm House Cool House, will give a presentation on solar passive design.

Mary Hendriks (Energy Consultant & ATA Sydney) national and international solar picture.

Robert Sutton (Australian Solar Energy Society) solar issues.

Morgan Woollett (Solar Shop) renewable energy systems in a domestic context.

Participants can tour the EarthCare site which features extensive permaculture and native gardens, a photovoltaic system, a solar passive community building constructed from strawbale, rammed earth and mud bricks. Henry Doubleday Research Association will be holding a plant sale and the Piggery Lane Artisan Studio will be open.

Cost: $20 includes morning and afternoon tea, BYO Lunch.
